So, you have a large window or maybe windows in your home.  So what’s the best window treatment for all that glass?  The specific answer will ultimately depend on your light control needs.  Just so you know, if you are looking for blackout window treatments, you may be a little disappointed in the outcome as it is very difficult with large windows.  Beyond that you do have choices.

First up are vertical blinds, but I am not talking about the ubiquitous vinyl vertical blinds.  Instead, consider some of the other material choices like fabric, solar screen, faux wood and wood, cellular and aluminum vertical blinds.  If you want to preserve your view-through consider vertical blinds with solar screen vanes.  If you want room darkening, look into aluminum, wood and faux wood, of course depending on how well these coordinate with your interior.  For a softer look consider fabric vertical blinds or vertical cellular shades.  The advantage of the cellular option is improved energy efficiency.

Next up are panel track blinds.  Panel track blinds are fairly new to the window treatments scene and offer sophisticated, contemporary looks.  They are similar to vertical blinds except they have much larger vanes; that’s why they call them panel blinds.  The blind itself operates on a wheeled track so they open and close very smoothly.  Panel tracks come in a wide variety of materials including solar shade, woven woods, weaves as well as patterned and solid fabrics.  The cool thing too about panel blinds is the panels can be swapped out with different panels if you wanted to redecorate.  As far as I know, no other window treatment allows this flexibility.

Of course, no list of window treatment options for large windows would be complete without drapes.  We all know about drapes so I will not go into them very deeply.  They are a good choice for oversized windows, but not for large windows that may be high off the floor.   One choice to consider with drapes that you may not have thought of is to layer them with another window treatment, like vertical blinds.  This offers a richer, more complete look which may be just the ticket for you particular décor.  And, because drapes come in a wide variety of fabrics, colors and patterns, coordinating them is a snap.

For modestly oversized windows, your choices expand a little.  This list includes: cellular shades, pleated shades, sheer shades, roman shades as well as the aforementioned vertical and panel track blinds.  For energy efficiency look into cellular shades.  For versatility and minimal light control look into sheer shades, which are another lesser known window treatment option.  They are kind of like two blinds in one.  They have fabric vanes covered on both sides by sheer fabric facings.  When the vanes are open, they allow decent view-through and light-filtering and when the vanes are closed offer gentle light control.  Pleated shades look very similar to cellular shades, but are less expensive but not as energy efficient because they don’t have the air pocket built in.  If you prefer fabric window treatments, roman shades are the best choice for you.  They come in a wide variety of fabric choices.  That’s why they are sometimes called fabric shades.  Roman shades offer the luxury of a drape with the easy operation of a shade.

One of my favorite window coverings for large windows is fabric vertical blinds. In my own home I have Hunter Douglas vertical blinds for my sliding glass door and they look great. – David Brooks

Buy Country Style Window Treatments

The Advantages of “Custom”
So why should you choose custom curtains over storebought curtains?

If you are unfamiliar with what exactly makes a custom window treatment (or any other custom-made fabric product for your home) so different from its storebought counterpart, this article might be useful to read before you start the custom design process.

The following are some of the most important advantages of purchasing custom, not storebought:

See it to believe it. We all know the old saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Unfortunately, with custom window treatments, that saying doesn’t quite apply. Many of the factors that make a custom window treatment so extra special can’t be seen in a picture. Custom draperies, for example, are fully lined, making them fuller and heavier. Custom draperies weigh about 2 – 2.5 pounds per panel on average, whereas the same size, unlined storebought curtain weighs less than a pound. Of course, there are some storebought curtains that are lined. Unfortunately, most are lined with cotton percale fabric, which is a thin sheeting fabric with a low thread count. While it may help to block out the sun and prevent fading to some extent, it does little to add fullness to a drapery.

Lining makes the difference. Custom draperies are lined with a thicker polycotton fabric that blocks the sun in the best way possible (up to SPF 50). The polyester component in the lining gives a drapery more strength and fullness. Lining is especially useful in rooms that experience more moisture and evaporative fumes. That’s because cotton captures and releases these fumes much easier, making lined window treatments a must in busy kitchens and bathrooms. As you see, the ideal lining is made of both cotton and polyester.

Tailored to your needs. Custom window treatments are made especially for your room the way you’d like. Storebought curtains are designed to please the majority of consumers. These include curtains that are made with solid, neutral colors and standard sizes. If you need to dress a very wide nursery window in pink and brown toile fabric, you will have a hard time finding the perfect window treatment that you want. Decorator fabrics come in a wide range of colors, prints, and sizes, giving you endless custom options that most storebought curtains don’t offer.

A wise investment. On average, Americans who purchased custom window treatments keep their custom drapes on their windows for seven years. Storebought curtains are changed every one to two years. The quality of custom window treatments is better, but going after the look that you really want instead of the look that is available will also keep you happy with your room for many years longer. Many of our clients tell us what a relief it is to finally see a custom window treatment on their windows. Unique window treatments are not easy to find if you’re looking for a specific look to fit your room. Most consumers start designing their rooms with matching furniture, pictures, walls, and little accents, only to see their designs come to a screeching halt when they realize that they can’t find a matching curtain.

There are many more reasons why custom is better than storebought, but the most important one of them is simply value. Custom window treatments pay for themselves throughout all the years that they gracefully cover your windows.

What Country Style Curtains should I

Choose?

sometimes people wonder what kind of curtains they should choose or purchase. Even though most people think this is a diffucult task it really is not. First of all wht you need to do is take a look at the color scheme for your room. You want to make sure that you choose certain colors and chased that you would like but would also match the room as well. So for example you do not want to go with red and Blue together. That is a bit tacky and bold. Could you imagine what that would look like?

So take a look, you can also look online where there are tons of different ideas and patterns that will match particular colors. make sure to get this set up for yourself.

When you choose a certain interior design for your window treatments you can now purchase them or create them yourself. We recommend that you come up with at least three different patterns that are very similar and then of those three purchase the two. If you do find a third that you cannot pass up then get that one as well since it is going to allow you the versatility of swapping out patterns.

Remember that you need to also wash your curtains often since dust will accumulate on the curtains and in turn will expose you to allergens that you may be allergic to. So this is the benefit of owning multiple curtains because now you will be able to swap out the previous pattern with a new one! pretty good idea!

When purchasing your country style curtains, you need to make sure that you purchase from quality drapery brands. The reason for this is that you will end up getting higher end fabrics or at least quality fabrics, drapes,  and shades to go with your Country Decor. We have seen instances where if you get a product that is of lower quality they tend to leave their colors behind on surfaces or if you touch them. Another thing that can happen is that they will actually drip the patterns behind. So this is not a pretty site at all.

Again while you are looking at these items you want to first and foremost make sure it matches your overall theme of your room. So whether you are a master of interior design, or maybe you just need window curtains, country curtains, draperies, or just plain need some type of window coverings. Our Classic style curtains will ensure that you get the drapery that you need to accent and charm your home!
